Our reputation – Animal Management

A blend of practical work experience, excellent facilities and optimised contact time ensures a high student success rate at BMC. Our tutors have an extensive professional knowledge and industry experience within the animal sector covering established fundamentals of the subject as well as current changes and future developments. You will experience excellent levels of contact and interaction with teaching staff and your fellow peers due to smaller class sizes and more personalised learning.

Our Foundation degree places an emphasis on the practical application of academic theory in a working environment. Through the use of specific case studies you’ll develop relevant, professional and vocational skills based on realistic scenarios. Our animal care unit also houses a wide range of animals which will enable you to develop practical skills further.

BMC has an outstanding level of employability in the animal management sector, graduate destinations include; zoos and wildlife parks, farm parks and rescue centres. Many graduates progress into teaching at a further education college and there are openings as a veterinary assistant or further veterinary related training. There is the opportunity to establish your own business in the animal care sector or even research and further study which might include an MSc or Phd.

At Brooksby Melton College we are committed to promoting the science of animal welfare and are part of the UFAW academic link scheme.

Lesley is a tutor with tonnes of experience in her field, who better to teach about animal health, law and ethics and nursing than someone has worked as a Veterinary Nurse for twenty years? During that time, she worked in both small and large practices and still works as a locum when required. She told us: “I’ve worked for the last ten years as a teacher after studying for my PGDE. I really enjoy working with both animals and students, so this is the perfect job for me. It really is brilliant here at BMC, students always thrive on the variety, the animals and the excellent resources. “In my spare time I enjoy beekeeping and looking after my cats and dogs. The health and welfare of animals is a big passion of mine and I enjoy getting to share that with the students and staff at BMC.”
